The Membership is open to any person fulfilling the necessary membership grade requirements subject to approval by the Executive Director. All members are bound by the Institute’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.

There is no joining fee just an annual membership fee. The annual fee varies dependent on the membership level held and for new members the time of the year membership is taken out.

The Institute has a growing overseas membership and we welcome applications from environmental health practitioners outside New Zealand. Overseas members are eligible for associate membership and can join online.
Membership Grades
Full membership is open to anyone, with a suitable tertiary qualification, who is engaged in matters relating to environmental health in New Zealand. Full members of the Institute are issued with an Annual Practising Certificate and are entitled to use the initials MIEH.
Associate membership is open to all persons not for the time being engaged in matters relating to environmental health in New Zealand and anyone who otherwise does not qualify for full membership. Associate members of the Institute are entitled to use the initials AIEH.
Student Membership is open to anyone completing a course of instruction in matters relating to environmental health in New Zealand.
Affiliate Organisation is open to any organisation in agreement with the aims and objectives of the Institute.
Corporate Membership is for organisations with seven or more people that would benefit from membership of the Institute. Corporate members qualify for a reduced annual membership fee.
