Membership is open to any person meeting the relevant membership grade requirements, (subject to approval).
The Institute seeks to support our members by encouraging innovation and highlighting their role in improving environmental health.
We raise the status and appreciation of environmental health (including health protection) with national government, employers, the media and other stakeholders.
The Institute also works to promote high professional standards, knowledge and competencies of environmental health practitioners.
There are grades of membership to cater for anyone involved in environmental health in New Zealand.
For those with a recognised tertiary qualification, working in a field related to environmental health in New Zealand.
Full members of the Institute are entitled to use the initials MIEH.
For those who do not hold a relevant qualification but work in environmental health, or those qualified but not currently working in a field related to environmental health.
Associate members of the Institute are entitled to use the initials AIEH.
Student membership is open to anyone studying a related course with a view to working in environmental health, or a related field after graduation in New Zealand.
The flat rate corporate membership was dis-established in the 2016 Rules. Moving forward, anyone with 6 or more people invoiced for membership on the same invoice will be eligible for a 10% discount on the invoice total.
There is no initial joining fee to become a member of the NZIEH, just an annual membership fee.
The annual fee varies dependant on the membership grade held. For new members joining for a part year, the fee is charged pro rata (based on a March 1st financial year).
Overseas members pay the same subscription rate as those within New Zealand (if based overseas please apply for associate membership).
