Dr. Nelson Lebo, Eco Design Advisor, Palmerston North City Council.
Nelson has been involved in the sustainability and environmental movements for 30 years. Over the last three decades he has worked as a secondary school environmental science teacher, organic farmer and eco design consultant, while also renovating three old homes to high standards of energy efficiency. These include the 2011 renovation of a 100 year-old villa – along with edible landscaping on the section – that has been included as a case study in permaculture co-founder David Holmgren’s current project, RetroSuburbia.
As PNCC’s Eco Design Advisor, Nelson advises homeowners, renters and landlords on all aspects of comfortable, healthy housing, and energy efficiency. He is regularly contacted by the national media to comment on issues of heating and cooling, managing internal moisture, and innovative approaches to eco renovation.
Nelson has a PhD in science and sustainability education from the University of Waikato, a Master’s Degree in teaching and learning from Lesley University, and a Diploma in Permaculture Design.
