The Opportunity

The Environmental Health and Alcohol Licensing team plays an important role in supporting the safety and well-being of Ōtepoti-Dunedin's residents. We are searching for a talented Environmental Health Officer with experience in Alcohol Licensing to work in the Environmental Health/Alcohol Licensing team here at Dunedin City Council (DCC). 


This role covers a wide range of responsibilities, including the verification of food business, inspection of premises registered under the Health Act 1956 as well as investigating general health nuisances. The exact nature of the work to be carried out will depend upon the experience of the successful candidate.

The Person

Reporting to the Team Leader, Environmental Health and Alcohol Licensing, and part of the Compliance Solutions team, this role requires a unique individual with sound decision making skills and confidence applying and interpreting legislation and policy to situations.

The successful applicant will have:

  • - Experience, and relevant qualifications, in environmental health, public health compliance and enforcement roles
  • - Experience in Alcohol Licensing
  • - Exceptional communication and customer service skills with a calm, solution focused approach to issues
  • - Competence in technology and its application in customer service delivery.

Prior experience in central or local government with an understanding of regulatory best practice and customer services would be a distinct advantage.

Salary range: $81,140 - $95,459
