What’s Environmental Health?
If you are reading this ad, you’re probably already in on the secret!!! Environmental Health is one of the least well known but most interesting and rewarding careers. Every day is different. You’re working with the community to improve public health outcomes across a number of specialities. You will deal with food, wastewater and noise and odour issues that affect people in their everyday lives… to name just a few!
You’ll be acting locally to put your science knowledge to a use in a way that helps to reduce illness and disease in the local community, protects our planet and our future. You may also be called on in emergency situations e.g. bushfires and flood to provide specialist advice and recovery assistance – sounds pretty interesting and rewarding huh?
Who is Kernow?
Kernow has been at the forefront of the environmental health industry in Victoria for more than 28 years. We’re different, because we are a medium sized private company with more than 45 Environmental Health Officers across metro and rural areas. We also have a large immunisation team and support personnel. Our staff have significant expertise and are respected leaders in the field. We have long standing relationships with a number of large and small councils in metro and rural Victoria and provide short term contracting solutions to various other councils within Victoria. What’s my day to day look like?
We are looking for another member of our Environmental Health family. This role is full time and based in our team at the Shire of Moyne, about 3.5 hours SW from Melbourne. You’ll experience a huge diversity of work and be based in the picturesque town of Port Fairy, heritage, surf and a lively arts scene ….some say it’s the perfect seaside town!

What do you need from me?
To be successful in this role, you will have recent experience as an Environmental Health Officer operating in a local government environment. Supplementing this experience, you will possess an Environmental Health qualification, Bachelor of Health Science or other relevant tertiary qualification. Graduates of Environmental Health and Health Sciences are also encouraged to apply as on the job training will be provided.
You will have excellent communication skills and you’ll be happy working both autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment. You’ll be great with people and be able to manage different stakeholders. You will be motivated to develop professionally and embrace new technology. You will also hold a valid Australian drivers licence.
